29. November 2002 Of course showing all the details of these images is difficult on the web, but even at a larger resolution they still look a bit "messy" - it was beautiful standing there with low light coming in, but I think I have better success with a bit tighter crop. Move closer If the scene you are standing in front of seems a bit too messy you might want to get a bit closer. Here are examples of "tighter crops" which I think works better than the two pictures above. I find these compositions to be more "graphical" but of course it's a matter of taste.... Move real close I often find, that to capture the "mood" of a place or the mood of autumn you often has to focus on the small things. In other words; try to get real close! Well, these are just plants that I saw on a small road when I was out walking. The pictures does however capture the "mood" of that day quite well, showing the low autumn sun light. The last picture is simply my back lawn scattered with leaves - it's a simple and quiet picture, but it shows the mood of autumn for me. Low light photography You have to be lucky to get a clear blue sky in the autumn - well, at least here where I live. Clouds might very easy make the better part of the autumn very dull, seen from a photographers point of view. This of course is a special challenge for the photographer, but you can actually still take photographs, but try with a very saturated film, like perhaps Fuji Velvia. I loaded up the camera with Velvia and went out to find colors on a totally overcast day (don't forget the tripod!). Yes, they are very, very dark and dense, but they still show some of the autumn colors! These two picture are very much alike. The second picture is a crop of a larger frame, but again demonstrates the "getting close" approach. Conclusion I hope for a even better autumn next year. This years pictures was too much a result of casual shooting when I was out walking anyway. But still, with every you picture you learn a bit more, so a frame is never wasted!
